Ultimaker Upgrade (Part 3: Getting Started)
Before I could get started printing I had to configure both Cura and the firware.
I’m already running “Tinker Firmware” on my ultimaker and luckily there is a version available for dual extrusion. If you aren’t running this firmware already I would highly recommend it even if you don’t plan on an upgrade..
The only other step was to change the steps/mm and the motor direction, all of which can be done through the printer interface.
To configure Cura for dual extrusion I made a custom printer definition however I could have just used the default custom template.
Time for a test print
This was only a two colour print and it needs some tuning, however what I’m really excited for is printing in two different materials. Either to have dissolvable supports or mixing flexible and rigid materials. Updates to come…
