As someone who owns both 3D printers and Quads I have of course designed several parts for them over the last few months. But recently I decided to give my Armattan Mongoose an overhaul.

The Armattan Mongoose is a really light frame at <90g. So far it’s held up great in crashes, it’s not that expensive and everything inside is pretty well protected. Especially the camera which is held in some custom made aluminium standoffs.

The only problem is it’s a pretty tight build. Especially if you go for a full size 30×30 stack with a 4-in-1 ESC and a full size VTX as I did with my first build. I also like to have a battery powered buzzer in all my crafts which has saved me more than once.

With all the electronics in (“borrowed” from my Chameleon), there’s actually a lot more space for components inside than I remembered but regardless I wanted to extend the space inside even more.

The solution I settled on was to flip the camera standoffs and print a bumper to protect the camera. The standoffs fit inside the bumper case so the camera is still held by the aluminum mounts.

I originally had a bottom mount battery so the first version of the session mount just zip ties to the top plate. Moving to a top mount battery meant shifting the GoPro forward.

My first version worked great however the battery extended off the back of the frame. Not inherently a problem but unfortunately the stretch X frame meant that as the props deflected upwards, they would cut into the battery…not ideal. I could run the battery sideways, toilet tank style but I prefered to redesign the mount again to push it even further forward. As long as the camera angle is below about 30 degrees it’s still out of view of the camera. Overall I’m really happy with the design.

Beside the gopro mount I also have some arm protectors, a variety of antenna mounts including one that would also hold my lost model buzzer where I could access the reset button.
